13 Tips to Treat Stomach Ulcers

A stomach ulcer, or peptic ulcer, is a lesion in the lining of the stomach that causes severe, sharp pain in the upper part of the abdomen. Traditional medicine often treats stomach ulcers with expensive prescription medications that soothe the symptoms for a while, but they do not treat the problem and can come with unwanted side effects.

It is possible that through natural home remedies you can prevent and treat stomach ulcers, avoiding both harsh drugs and further discomfort.

Natural Treatments for Stomach Ulcers

Fruit and Vegetables - Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables particularly juices.  A healthy raw food diet is the most important ingredient in natural remedies, particularly those effecting digestion. It is important that you eat foods that your body can easily digest, ensuring that you receive all of the vitamins and minerals your body need to maintain balance.

Cabbage Juice - Fresh cabbage juice is an excellent ulcer treatment. It produces an amino acid that increases blood flow to the lining of the stomach and helps to strengthen it. For those who prefer eating cabbage, only raw cabbage should be used to be effective.

Manuka Honey - Active Manuka honey is another effective treatment for ulcers. This raw honey may be purchased in health food stores. Honey has been used for hundreds of years as a topical preparation to promote the healing of wounds. Ingested, it heals and strengthens the stomach lining and kills harmful bacteria

Ginger - Ginger is thought to aid digestion and absorption of important food constituents and to protect and soothe the digestive system as a whole. In addition, ginger has notable antioxidant and enzyme activity and works well as a treatment for nausea

Aloe Vera - Aloe also seems to enhance the digestion and absorption of food, and reduces bacterial putrefaction in the gut. Take one capsule with a full glass of water 2-3 times a day. Alternatively, take Aloe Vera juice if you can tolerate the taste of it. Aloe Vera is not recommended during pregnancy

Reduce Certain Triggers - Limit the triggers that cause hyperacidity in the stomach to prevent and soothe stomach ulcers. Things such as spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, tobacco and overeating can increase the levels of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, causing and worsening peptic ulcers.

Eat Bananas - one of Mother Earth's best natural remedies for stomach ulcers. Bananas neutralise the hydrochloric acid in the stomach, reducing the painful symptoms of peptic ulcers.

Drink Liquorice Tea–Liquorice acts as an anti-inflammatory and produces a substance that aids in the protection of the stomach wall. When incorporating liquorice as part of a natural cure, the production of acid is also reduced. It is best taken as a tea which is found is all health food shops.

Reduce stress - Get lots of gentle exercise to help relax and eliminate toxins from the body. Getting regular massages, practicing yoga, meditation or Tai Chi can all help reduce your stress and help prevent further problems from stomach ulcers.

Almond or Goats Milk - A natural approach towards curing an ulcer includes almond milk and goat’s milk. Almond milk is created when adding blanched almonds to a blender. The remedy is known to bind excess acid in the stomach. Goat’s milk has also been known to heal peptic ulcers

Cayenne Pepper - Cayenne pepper is wonderful for healing ulcers as well as dulling the pain. It is a bit strong and may take some getting used to at the outset. Start with one-eighth teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of water twice a day and work up to a quarter-teaspoon. You can also take cayenne capsules that you can get at the health food store.

Cut back on Coffee - Both regular and decaffeinated coffee increase levels of stomach acids, causing extreme discomfort.

Don’t Smoke - People who smoke are much more likely to get ulcers than those who don’t.
